Rain didn't stop play!
Another great Party in the Park! And a wonderful way to celebrate our tenth anniversary. Eight excellent and varied bands, a wonderful crowd and plenty of good quality food and drink all added up to that special Party in the Park atmosphere. Once again, 1,300 people enjoyed a great day in the park. And we have had lots of lovely feedback from what was obviously a very happy crowd. Even the forecast heavy rain didn't happen as much as it did elsewhere in the area, that Galhampton vibe sent it away!
John Adams opened the day and warmed the growing crowd with his Welsh charm and outstanding voice, showing just why he was so successful in his X-Factor run. We were expecting a solo set from John but he turned up with his band, so a bonus all round. Next up was another strong singer, Galhampton's very own Theya who, at 18, has gone a long way in a short time. Along with her band she impressed with a mixture of covers and her own songs. Theya also christened our new-this-year acoustic stage, which proved very popular. We were then treated to the excellent Bare Jams, young and refreshingly different with their upbeat, acoustic style with elements of ska and reggae added into the mix and a great energy. Sheelanagig followed and it was immediately obvious why they are such festival favourites, their lively Balkan style combined with onstage antics keeping the crowd well entertained.
It was then good, honest rock from one of our favourite local covers bands, Full Tilt, who played a lively set with numbers taken from the last four decades. Buster Shuffle then took to the stage and showed just why they went down so well last year, their inspired lyrics about everyday life and catchy tunes combined with great onstage presence having that indefinable ‘wow' factor. We were then treated to a calmer but musically excellent set from Yes Sir Boss with their highly original blend of horn infused blues, indie rock and reggae that really grabbed your attention. And, finally, we had our headliners, The Beat, grace the stage. Despite a Glastonbury induced stomach problem Ranking Roger gave a great performance and his son, Ranking Junior, provided enough energy for both of them. Classics such as ‘Mirror in the bathroom' had the crowd dancing and singing along despite the rain and a top class headline set was over all too soon.
A big THANK YOU to all those who helped us and to all who came along and enjoyed their day with us. We had over 130 volunteers helping on the day, which is a brilliant effort for such a small village; Galhampton is justly proud of what it achieves each year in putting on Party in the Park. We've got a great community here.
We will have more photographs soon so keep checking back. Don't forget to have a look at our Facebook page and, if you haven't already, please 'like' us.
And here is just some of the lovely feedback we have had:
