Another great year and one of our best yet! Once again we had a sell-out crowd, our sixth in a row, and once again we had a lovely atmosphere on the park with a relaxed and happy audience who enjoyed eight excellent bands plus a wide range of good quality hot and cold foods and drink and the ever popular kid's tent. Yet again we had not just our local stalwarts but also people from further afield, including London, Wales and Manchester. Party in the Park is fast becoming a national event! We have had some wonderful feedback both on the day and since which makes all the hard work worthwhile. We have also raised more funds to go towards the rebuilding of Galhampton's village hall. So, a big "thank you" to all who came and supported us on the day and to all who helped in putting the festival on.

Jack Flash opened the day with an excellent set of indie/rock that belied their youthful years. Keep an eye on them. Their set was specially recorded by the boys at Leopard Productions and is well worth a listen, click here to check them out. The Party in the Park house band, Stress , followed with yet another crowd pleasing set of tightly played covers. Once again Galhampton's Theya Fowler joined them to sing three numbers and, once again, wowed the crowd with her vocal ability. All the way from East London, The Skints really impressed with their own style of reggae and punk. They already had a number of fans in the crowd and left with a lot more. Lead singer Marcia showed her skill by playing a range of instruments as well as looking fetching in a leopard skin hat. Returning from last year, StopGo Sixty were playing the first of three gigs in one day and once again gave us an energetic and polished performance. The Dorset boys performed their pop soul style with gusto and, just as last year, impressed us. We hope their other two gigs that day went just as well. Click here to see their performance of "Venus".

Flipron lived up to their reputation as a multi-talented and entertaining four piece who cannot be categorised. Hailing from nearby Glastonbury, they gave a highly entertaining set of wit and intelligence with some intriguing lyrics. They played a range of unusual instruments and were fronted by the charismatic Jesse who proved as watchable as he was entertaining, especially in those black and white boots! The following day they were playing as part of Reef to 77,000 at the Charity Shield match at Wembley, but on the Saturday Gary and Jack were playing Party in the Park as StringerBessant. With a welcome change of pace before the energy of our final two bands, they displayed their great experience and musicianship in a mellow set that repaid the concentration it deserved. Talent that deserved respect.

Their set at the 2008 Party remains one of our all-time highlights, but Babyhead matched it with a performance of great energy and entertainment. Delivering their unique mixture of ska, reggae and hip-hop, the eight piece had the crowd up dancing and roaring for more. Fronted by the wonderful Mancub, the band filled the stage with movement and the park with great music. Excellent stuff! The day came to a close with the original rude boy himself, Neville Staple. As a veteran of The Specials and Fun Boy Three, Neville delivered a true headline set of ska numbers that kept the crowd up and dancing. Watching “Ghost Town” in the twilight of a rural Somerset evening with 1,500 enthralled people was truly magical. He left the stage with the crowd understandably shouting for more. A great end to a great day.

We have a selection of photographs from the day on this page, more will be coming very soon. The aerial shots were by special arrangement with a friendly local pilot and we are really impressed with them, we hope you are too.

Party in the Park 2012 will be on Saturday 7th July 2012 - make a note in your diary!
